This was an excellent session with a clear focus on active listening and rebuttal. Well done all for implementing these debating skills so impressively during the meeting.
We began with an extensive newsround, taking in:
Trade wars & tariffs
Trinidad's carnival
Ukraine-US support questions
Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday
Basketball awards
We then pursued a discussion on Global Recycling Day or 'Earth day' and what this should involve at home and at school, from assembly talks, to paper recycling and cleaning up the beach.
Our debating topics took in the motions/questions:
Should we follow Denmark in a ban on phones in school?
Should world leaders have arguments in public or behind closed doors?
Are cartoons good for learning?
'This house believes working from home is better than working in the office'
It was great to see the group look for a balance or via media in the final motion.
In unseen work we looked at Alexander Graham Bell (born 3 March 1847) and early telephone inventions.
Well done all on another tremendous session.
