This week we started out by discussing the recent news, initially talking about the success of Space X in catching the rocket booster, marking an important milestone in space exploration. In addition to this, we looked at the devastation caused by the hurricanes in Florida and the recent sightings of the northern lights across the UK.
We then turned to our warm-up questions: “tell me something interesting about you/the world”, where they focussed on adding detail to their points. We then looked at the motion “this House would do more Drama in school”, which was argued back and forth, leading us into another debate of the day on the question “is money the most important factor in a job?” Students really enjoyed answering this and we had some splendidly concise, considered arguments. A few students afterwards admitted they felt slightly different to how they did beforehand and also recognised nuances that can exist in an argument. It is great to see the group working on skills each week and importantly active listening.
The final debate we looked at, was “should sport be compulsory?” Some great POIs were raised here, with some fantastic responses. Well done all.
